The Best Sports Stores in Singapore

singapore tourist attractions
Ethan Ong asked:

What are the best sport stores in Singapore? Where do you go when you have the adrenalin of the athlete pumping through your brains and you don’t have the proper equipment to rule the world with your prowess? No need to look to the trees and fashion a shoe out of bark and angsana leaves but simply head down into town and be sucked into the velocity of hundreds of sporting outlets all over the island that will leave you and soon, your competition dizzy.

Well the first thing that hits your mind are brand names like Adidas and Nike, which have striped this country and checked every possible location where any sort of human traffic will be passing through. Let’s face it, many of us have been hit by the fitness bug but no regime is complete without some sort of rubber air cooled spring shoe or ceramicool outfit to keep us fast, give us grip and windy and cool - even when the situation heats up. These famous brand names are everywhere, from old shopping centres to new fangled multi plexes like VivoCity. Their boutiques are usually quite huge and they are the ones who are on top of technology when it comes to the latest science of making you run faster than the wind and jump higher than the clouds.

There isn’t much left for me to say here because the quality of the products and the uses are pretty well spelled out in the hundreds of advertising campaigns all over T.V. Impossible is nothing and just do it are two answers you should be looking for when you think there is no way you can find the right shoe for you or if you are still contemplating whether you should join that marathon - at age 51.

But if you are looking for a wider variety and a chance to bargain, stores like World of Sports are the one stop center for every brand imaginable, from the famous to the mediocre and prices ranging to the wallet tearing to the extremely cheap and reasonable. Brands from umbro, puma, reebok are just some you can expect to come across. The good thing here is they have everything, from track pants to tennis shoes, from golf balls to latex tank tops. Everything you need to play 6 different types of sports at once is available in abundance - even to tiny details like sweat bands and caps.

Just a note to the thrifty shopper, try to head down to places like Peninsula Plaza or wholesome sporting stores in Queensway shopping centre. The prices are much cheaper and you can haggle your way to a 2 for 1 deal - if you are good enough. There isn’t enough space for me to list all the shops that are available in these margin malls but they are plenty and they are reliable, lower rent means lower prices and the deal you will be getting in some of these places are well worth the journey there.

Singapore Tourist Attractions You Must Visit

singapore tourist attractions
Ethan Ong asked:

There are certain places in specific countries that define them. Some come easily to mind, with the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Le Arch De Triumph in the same country. The Egyptians have the pyramids or the famous gold markets and Italy has their museums, the Vatican and of course the ever famous leaning tower. Singapore is no different from this and there are many Singapore tourist attractions that you must visit, packed into a small island nation. It is amazing in itself that Singapore, with its diminutive size has been able to pack in so much culture, tradition and entertainment every where a visitor turns and here is a quick overview of the Singapore tourist attractions you must visit.

I think one of the main attractions is the food of Singapore, something everyone must taste before they depart the country. Local delights are a source of pride for every Singaporean because they carry with it that special touch and flavour that make them unique to this island nation. Tourists should always visit areas like Little India, Chinatown and Arab Street to taste some of the best local delights that Singapore has to offer. Not only do can they recognise the different ethnic enclaves and slices of our multinational and multicultural society. Enjoy true local Chinese delights in any of the coffee shops and shop houses that pepper these locations - at the same time enjoy the rich sights and sounds of these places over a steaming cup of a local favourite. There is nothing like immersing oneself in a sensory experience, smell, touch, taste - all while viewing the rich tapestry of culture draped all around - from preserved old architecture to colloquial slangs.

You have not experienced Singapore without experiencing some of the more famous talk abouts among the visitor circles. Dont forget to visit the Central Business District and be amazed by the sight of the tall skyscrapers touching the clouds in an arrangement that has graced post cards and brochures all over the world. Be awed by the Esplanade and its titillating architectural design. Relax by the Singapore River, party in Asia’s first floating event platform and soar above all your expectation with the Singapore Flyer - larger than the London Eye by a long shot - giving you a great view of the island.

If you love the beach then your trip will not be complete without visiting Sentosa - Singapore’s very own separate island beach. Literally meaning tranquillity, this engineered beach is a picture of perfection, from calm waters and beautiful sandy beaches. Within Sentosa itself is attractions, events and things to do that you wont have enough hours of the day to complete.

Singapore is a 24 hour a day entertainment hub, and no matter how weird your sleeping patterns, you will always find something to do. There are so many Singapore tourist attractions you must visit, you could not possibly do them all in a single trip. From cultural locales to a busy central district - there is more than one way to be amazed.

Singapore - A Growing Number of World Firsts!

singapore tourist attractions
Gregory Smyth asked:

Singapore is listed at the top when it comes to ‘world’s firsts’. Suntec city is the biggest man made fountain and is located in Singapore. Night safari is the world’s first night zoo and also the world’s highest man made waterfall at Jurong Bird Park is also located in Singapore. China town, little India and Geylang Serai are among those which illustrates the local culture. Singapore’s successful economy is very much attached to its tradition and this can be felt really closer after visiting these spots. Singapore is not all about urban landscape, but natural beauty is also very much prevalent in this city, as it is also known as the ‘Garden city’.

Additional, hot spots in Singapore include Singapore zoological gardens, Bukit Timah nature reserve and Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. For those who love history and culture there are lots of museums, architectural heritages and exhibitions. Asian civilization museum and the Singapore art museum are among the highlights.

Singapore also boasts a thriving Islamic community, centered around Arab street, which is the Muslim epicenter of the city. Here the sultan mosque is the most attractive due to its unique gold dome and prayer hall. It is also a market for colorful textiles from around Asia with very low and attractive prices.

Yet another marvel is the Asian civilization museum. It was opened in 1997 and here many anthropological and cultural exhibits are there. These exhibits are very much from India, China and south East Asia. Another much attractive one is the Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom Museum. There are thousands of colorful and endangered species of butterflies roaming around as one walks through. A different experience will be the Civilian War Memorial. This is one which is dedicated to the civilians who lost their life during the Japanese occupation during the Second World War. It is also known as the’chopstick’ memorial due to its unusual design. Maritime museum is another of those hot sights. Singapore is always known as a maritime Museum. It is now among the biggest ports in the world. Lots of ship models are there in the museum and it has lots of boat displays of all kinds along with fishing equipments.

Finally, Singapore Zoological gardens is a real attraction while sightseeing in Singapore. It is an open zoo where around 2000 different creatures roam around. There is also a Children’s World where children could interact with the animals. There are sea lions as well as penguin gallery. An air-conditioned polar bear enclosure adds to the charm and beauty. Mount Faber Cable Car Station and Viewing garden is also a must see adventure. Singapore harbor as well as islands can be well viewed by sitting inside this. Sungei Buloh Nature Park is a very famous attraction in Singapore along with is the Mandai orchid garden. Fort canning Park and East Cost park are all hot destinations in there own sense. All of this makes for a great sightseeing experience for any tourist spending time in Singapore.

A Visit to the Singapore Zoo

singapore tourist attractions
Ethan Ong asked:

A visit to the Singapore zoo is the closes thing anyone in Singapore will get to the Safari experience ever, from the safety of well constructed and fascinating enclosures. It reconnects us to the animal kingdom - a kingdom that we sometimes forget we are very much a part of and reminds us of the wonder and fascination we all have with animals. The Singapore zoo is very much a primal destination, a place where some part of us is awaken and no matter how old we are, we start to become children - pointing and smiling .

The Singapore Zoo is built on the open zoo concept, which is essentially animals being kept in spacious enclosures that resemble as closely as possible to their natural habitats. Dry and wet moats, or natural barriers are placed to separate the animals from the visitors - these are usually hidden and cleverly designed into the entire enclosure so that it looks much like a part of the enclosure itself. Depending on the animal, different sorts of barriers are used, but the zoo tries to keep that ‘open concept’ as a living entity within its design. Predators and naturally agile animals are placed in massive and ornate glass enclosures for the safety of the visitor. There are no cages, no prisons - the animals are left to roam as free as possible, so oppressive environments which typify old zoos are absent.

For not, the Singapore zoo is festooned with many animal exhibits, from the traditional orang utan all the way to animals from the fragile forests all over the world. Species both exotic, common and special are placed in themed areas of the zoo - attractions like Pig-ture this! and Reptile Garden give you an good and whimsical idea of what you can expect.

While Singapore zoo is a tourist attraction, there is another dimension to it. Look beyond the glass enclosures, the natural habitats and the attention to detail for a moment and you will see a place that is all about conservation - a bastion for animal preservation and animal conversation. This is a visual campaign for the visitors, not only to entertain, educate or inform - but to inspire a spirit of preservation in us, a reminder of the beauty of the animal kingdom and what we would be preserving if we started to carry the flag in our hearts.

There are many events within the zoo itself, as well as many campaigns and shows that entertain and remind us of the fragility of some species of animals. Jump in and save the frog is one such event. Animals are stars as well within the Singapore Zoo, with famous personalities current and of the past - some of them preserved for years and years through memory and campaigns. The Singapore Zoo is also about education, with many programmes designed to delight and entertain kids as well as adults - teaching them about the importance of animal preservation.

The Singapore zoo is a fantastic place to visit - it is an experience like no other, and anyone will come away with a different understanding of the word ‘animal’.

Sentosa Island Resort Tourist Attractions

singapore tourist attractions
Chris Chew asked:

The tiny nation of Singapore is made up of a main island with 60 over smaller islands. Some of these islands are developed into tourist attractions and resorts, particularly Sentosa Island, dubbed as the playground of Singapore.

The main island of Singapore has a total land area of 682 sq km or 263 sq miles. Although Singapore is not very blessed in natural beauty as compared to other island attractions like the Hawaii in USA, through its clever city and nature planning, a holiday vacation in Singapore is filled with fun, pleasure and pleasant surprises.

Singapore’s strategic location, excellent infrastructure, fascinating cultural contrasts and tourist attractions contribute to its success as a leading destination for travelers on holiday vacations or on business travels.

Sentosa Island is a themed tourist attraction. It is a one stop tropical island resort, a nature park and cultural heritage center. This tropical island in the sun is just minutes away from the city and is accessible by ferries, cable car or by road.

Sentosa Island resort is a 390 hectare or 964 acre recreational jewel dazzles with a smorgasboard of tourist attractions and leisure activities. Sentosa used to be a fishing village turned British military base, and then was transformed into an idyllic island resort in 1972 and today, it is one of the must visit destination for any tourist in Singapore.

Once you step on the shores of Sentosa, you can find your own niche interest among the many exciting tourist attractions. Singapore’s rich history and culture comes alive vividly, you can find entertainment by day and night, explore the lush green tropical rainforest, picnic on sprawling manicured gardens, bewildered by dancing fountains and or have a putting game at the two international championship 18-hole golf courses with scintillating views of the sea and hills.

If frolicking on the beach is your cup of tea, then you can play exciting beach games and sea sports along the 3.2-km or 1.5 mile long sandy beaches stretching across Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong. You can also enjoy cycling, canoe or in-line skating, or just simply unwind at the many beach pubs.

In recent years, Sentosa has also gained international fame for holding some of Singapore’s most exciting themed events like the Sentosa Sandsation (an international sandsculpting event), Black Moon Foam Parties, Zouk Out Dance Festival and Sentosa’s yearly Countdown Parties!

As for nature lovers, keep a lookout for friendly peacocks, monkeys and squirrels or take a nature walk along the Nature Walk/Dragon Trails through a secondary rainforest and stop by the vantage point on the summit of Mount Imbiah for a panoramic view of the surrounding islands.

Then visit The Underwater World (huge marine aquarium) and Dolphin Lagoon to meet the friendly pink dolphins and other exciting marine creatures. You can also admire over 2,500 butterflies from over 50 species and unusual insects like the man-face bugs, stick insects, giant millipedes, scorpions and rhino beetles at the Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom.

If you are a history buff, then you must pay a visit to Fort Siloso while in Sentosa. Built in the 1880s, Fort Siloso served as the last bastion of the British Empire armed forces during the Japanese occupation of Singapore during the Second World War. Explore the other historical enclave on top of Mt Imbiah where the remains of a former British artillery battery lie.

For adrenaline pumping excitement, take a thrill ride at Cinemania which is an interactive simulation theatre. Prepare to scream your lungs out!

The party at Sentosa comes to life at sunset. Take an evening stroll through the enchanting Fountain Gardens, bathed in fairy lights or go up to the top of The Merlion or Dragon Court to gaze at the glittering skyline.

The Musical Fountain, Dance of Fire and Water Show offers a spectacular light and sound experience after dark. The latest laser technology is combined with motion pictures and 3-D animated images, choreographed to a ballet of dancing water fountains, multi-sensory music and lights.

There are various types of hotels and accommodation if you choose to stay over night at Sentosa Island Resort. Hotel and accommodation options ranging from five-star resort hotels such as The Sentosa Resort & Spa, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort and Sijori Resort to affordable holiday vacation homes like Sentosa Holiday Chalets and NTUC Sentosa Beach Resort and budget campsites. Most of the high end hotel and resorts have facilities such as resort spas, massages, swimming pools and gyms with personal trainers.

Food is never a concern as there are wide selections of food and beverage restaurants, food courts and fast food outlets. Traveling to Singapore for your holiday vacation? Do not miss spending a day or two at Sentosa Island resort.
