Manchester was the first industrialised city in the world & it was at the heart of the industrial revolution. Indeed, it was the international centre of textile manufacture & cotton spinning around this time. because of this, it acquired the nickname Cottonopolis during the nineteeth century due to its many cotton mills.
Because of its impressive canal network & nineteeth century mills, Manchester City Centre is now on a tentative list of world heritage sites. However, a number of these mills have now been converted into offices and flats.
These days, manchester has remained really proud of its industrial past. despite this, its become a thriving, modernistic city that is widely known as the capital of the north west.
There’s lots of stuff to do in Manchester, including many museums & galleries. a few of the finest are URBIS, the manchester museum & the Whitworth Art Gallery.
